I think the article's statement that she "doesn't understand women who crave motherhood" is a misunderstands what she actually says.

She says she doesn't understand why women have to have children to be SEEN as complete, not to FEEL complete.

I think she's describing society's view of women as mothers, not that women feel they have to be mothers.

She seems to be commenting on society at large, and the article turns this into her indictment of mothers - it's just trying to pick a fight - LAME.

AWESOME! Heh... I can't help but think back to the scene in My Cousin Vinny when she's stamping her foot and screaming about her biological clock! :p

Good point, Almost Alright. They make it sound like she's critical of MOTHERS when really, she's critical of the idea that a woman can't be complete without children.

I know this isn't related to Marisa Tomei but I thought I'd let you know. I saw an interview with Stevie Nicks the other day and she said she's been open about not wanting kids. It's funny because everyone always asks her how she managed to stay looking so young (she's 63 now). She always says it's because she stays out of the sun and never ever sleeps with her makeup on. I'm sure those things help...but we know it's because she's childfree and stress free, therefore being nearly wrinkle free lol :) I also know Helen Mirren said she doesn't want kids because she was traumatized by an educational childbirth film and to this day she remains disgusted by childbirth. Pretty funny if you ask me :P Just wanted to give you some more material (not that you need the help since the blog is AWESOME already!!!)

No wonder she is still just as hot at 44 as she was 20 years go in My Cousin Vinny.

You go girl!

I love Marisa! I tend to agree that most women who don't have kids look and act a lot younger than they really are. My sister is younger than me, but most people think she's older because she has gray hairs and a few wrinkles. Having kids can be a huge cause of stress for a lot of women.

Hi! Sorry I can't figure out how to contact you directly, but I wanted to share this with you:

Kate Beaton is a fantastic artist with an online strip called Hark! A Vagrant! and she's just so smart and awesome. I particularly like this shirt, and thought you would too!

Thanks for a great blog! I'm 25 and definitely CF, even though I love kids - and I'm lucky because my parents are totally fine with it.

While I am an advocate of a woman's right to choose whether or not to have kids, I think there's a big misconception going around that women without children lead this stress-free life. That's SO not true. I'm 29, childfree, and stressed over my job, wedding, and life in general. I'm sure it could be MORE stressful with children, but I don't want women to read some of these articles/comments and think stress disappears with lack of children. I still don't want kids though, haha!

I just watched "The Wrestler," in which Marissa Tomei steals the show, in my stereotypical hetero male opinion. She is obviously doing quite well with her life....
