Musings on the Childfree Lifestyle and our Child-Centric Society
Yes, the "surprise" is surprising...how can you not know that having a baby is far from blissful? But they kept talking about the lack of close community/isolation being THE problem. I can totally understand that, but at the same time, there are so many other things about having children that repel me. 1. Pregnancy/morning sickness/labor (I guess they were talking about AFTER the baby is born, though)2. Breastfeeding (is you community going to do that for you?)3. Lack of sleep (yes, you might have a little more sleep if you have community, but really?4. Shitty diapers5. Constant worry6. The expense7. Dealing with teenagersThe list goes on. That said, they do bring up a good point. I moved 150 miles away from a very large family (both my husband's and mine), and even if I wanted children, it would be difficult for us simply because we aren't near them. There would be no support system. However, our nieces and nephews who live close to "home" keep pumping them out without a second thought. They have their mothers, grandmothers, siblings, and cousins who all lend a hand. Makes me even happier we moved 150 miles away...
