The Waiting Game

I got an e-mail the other day from a former co-worker. You may remember her from this post. She left about a year ago to become a stay-at-home mom. Anyway, she sent me a link to her new family web site which, of course, mostly focuses on the new baby. Anyway, this kinda gave me a chuckle. On the home page of the web site, it says:

Welcome to the website of Sandy, John & Madison Cahill. Sandy & John met in 2002, and married in 2003. We purchased a house a couple years ago and have just welcomed our daughter, Madison Lynn Cahill. Before Madison arrived, our life was full of traveling, enjoying good food and wine, and spending time with family and friends. Now we’re waiting to see what exciting adventures will come with our new addition.

We hope you enjoy the photo galleries of our family!
Is it me, or do you find it funny that she actually listed all the fun things they used to do before they had the baby - as though she is saying, "this is what our life was like back when we had a life"? And now they are waiting for exciting adventures to come? It's been a year since they had the baby...no adventures or excitement yet?

I just hope the adventures they eventually have with the baby will be as exciting as the travelling, dining out and the socializing they used to do. I don't know...somehow I can't see Chuck E. Cheese holding a candle to all of that.

Well, not to sound judgmental, but your ex-coworker's previous comments lead me to believe that she's not the brightest bulb. KWIM?

But Chuck E. Cheese is sooo much fun! */sarcasm* LOL! :)

That's just more than a little sad that she listed the fun things that used to be a part of her life and now... no so much. I guess learning how not to pull your hair out when the baby is still crying at 2am can be an adventure of sorts. Humm... ok, maybe not. Yay for being CF! :)

They used to enjoy wine, because when you are a parent, if you enjoy wine, you'll never stop...
Off to Jug Town where Daddy drinks for the government!

Yeah, let's see what adventures having a kid brings:

- Wiping shit off the kid's butt (and anywhere else it ends up) daily.
- 2:00 a.m. feeding calls. Wow...that sounds like FUN!!!
- Constantly looking at too much month at the end of the money (who knew kids could be so expensive?!?!?).
- Wahh, wahhhhhhh, wahhhhhhhhh!!!! The end of peace and quiet is an adventure of sorts.
- Mac-n-cheese, fish stick, chicken nuggets, pizza. While I like to indulge in these tasty treats once in awhile, I cannot see where a steady diet of them would be much of an "adventure." Especially when you're used to dining out an nice restaurants or cooking yourself a good meal.
- MOMMY WARS!!! That's an adventure in itself.
- Bratty behavior, fighting with teenagers, hoping they keep their grades up, don't get into drugs, or get pregnant....
- Figuring out a way to get them through college (if they can even find a college that will take them).
- Hoping that somehow, some way, the kid(s) will be able to support themselves so they can get the hell out of your house.

Yeah, lots of fun adventures there! No thank you.

She sounds like all the things she was doing were just "fillers" and I really think that whether or not you have kids, a person should enjoy different periods of their life.

A lot of people don't seem to know what to do with their lives, maybe that was her case. I wonder if she really was living her life before she honestly got pregnant.

I apologise in advance for my English, I'm Italian, but I can't really stop leaving a comment after tons of material I've involontarily collected about the topic.

I'm living in Japan, and I have the occasion of observing (most o f the time astonished) parents and breeders of different countries and today I'd like to share what I've heard mothers saying:

" Sometimes he make me crazy, I would like to bump his head into the wall", talking about her 4 years old son.
"Little asshole" referring to her 18 months old daughter who waked her up at night every two hours .

Years ago a mother used to yell from the window to call her daughter Valentina playing somewhere outside, so that we all clearly could hear it.
It is a tipical Italian espression, litterally translated:
"Valentinaaa! Come here! I'll break your bones!"

I've been told that if it's my baby it's different.
I agree now, I bet I couldn't say same sort of things to others people's child without consequences...

Gotta love people who think the rest of the world has any kind of interest in masses of photos of their children. Upon showing a friend some pictures of my cats, he said "Thank god you guys are never having kids". He made a good point (and made me giggle).
